Aung San Suu Kyi was heading to the rural constituency of Kawhmu, from
where she is contesting a by-election on 01 April – the first election
the Nobel Peace laureate will contest in the country. Members of her
National League for Democracy (NLD) party are contesting another 43
seats nationwide..Suu Kyi took residency in Wathinkha village, part of
Kawhma district, in order to contest from the constituency. She will
spend Saturday night with her adopted family in Wathinkha

Suu Kyi said 30 April she wanted to stay overnight so she could be in the constituency early 01 April, even though she is not registered to vote there as her home remains in Yangon. A new wave of reform in Myanmar is taking place ahead of parliamentary by-elections 01 April.
