KNU delegates vote-in five new leaders

The Karen National Union’s top five positions were elected in a secret ballot at the organisation’s 15th Congress held at Lay Wah, Pa-an District, Karen State, today, 21 December.
The five new leaders are – General Mutu Say Poe, chairperson, Naw Zipporah Sein as vice-chairperson, Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win is the new general secretary, Padoh Saw Thaw Thi Bwe is joint secretary 1 and Mahn Mahn Mahn is the joint secretary 2.

The KNU delegates also voted for Padoh Saw Ah Toe as its Cheif Judge, although other executive committee members such as the department heads have yet to be elected. KNU sources expect the appointment and approval of remaining executive committee members to be completed on Monday, December 24.

The Karen National Union’s 15th Congress began on November 26 and was attended by representatives from seven KNU Districts and Brigades, members of overseas based Karen groups and local community organizations, observers and other individuals – a total of 200 people.
