Two Mon Officials Appointed Positions in the Burmese New Government

By LAWI WENG - All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP) reported that two Mon officials have been appointed by the new government in Naypyidaw; one as culture minister and the other as energy and electric minister in Mon State.

Min Nwe Soe become the minister of culture and Nai Lawi Oung is the energy and electric minister. These two men were nominated in February by Ohn Myint, the chairman of the regime-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) in Mon State.

Min Nwe Soe is the secretary of the AMDP and Lawi Oung is an AMDP committee member.

Speaking to the Independent Mon News Agency on Wednesday, the chairman of the AMDP, Nai Ngwe Thein, said, “It will be advantageous for our people advantage for our people if they know how to propose [legislation].”

“As for us [the AMDP], we cannot tell them what to do anymore as they are not longer our own minsters,” Nai Ngwe Thein explained.

The AMDP states that they have 63 committee members, including Min Nwe Soe and Lawi Oung. According to the AMDP, these two ministers will resign from the party as they become ministers for the USDP party in Mon State.
