Local Villagers Detained by Burmese Army after the Clashes

After Burmese Army launched a series of attacks on Shan State Army –North (SSA-N) and seized its Nam Lao base at Murng Kao tract, Tang Yan Township, northern Shan State, many local innocent villagers were detained by Burmese troops.

On 15 March, Burmese Army arrested many young people of Nam Lao village for porters so that more than 500 villagers fled and took refuge in the deep jungle.

On 16, March, Burmese Army summoned 50 villagers of Nam Lao village and detained them at the military base. At first, the villagers were granted of their safety but they were detained by Burmese troops later.

At least 50 motorbikes were captured and taken to Tang Yan Township without compensations.

Likewise, Burmese Army also detained many young villagers from Murng Kao at a villager’s house. They were accused of being supporters of SSA-N and Burmese Army will use them as porters when they launch a new offensive to the SSA-N.

On the other hand, Burmese Army will use these young villagers as hostages if SSA-N attacks them for regaining its Nam Lao base

IB 291 based in Lashio and IB 33 based in Murng Kao are taking the responsibility of attacking the SSA-N in Nam Loa and Murng Kao area.
